Comments: Sometimes there are interesting coincidences. I wanted to learn how to do blackwork properly and was looking for a good source to learn from when I won this course written by Dakota Rogers for EGA.

When we have our meetings at EGA CyberStitchers, we sign in daily for each meeting and at the end of that day there is a drawing of two names and these winners get to pick a prize shown in special photo albums on the Yahoo group where we hold these meetings and I chose this project.

As soon as I received it through the mail, I purchased the necessary material and stitched it right away. I found blackwork ro be a very enjoyable form of needlework and I have done many other projects afterwards, which I will add to my blog later on.

Lace ribbons has been finished as a pillow with cording around it and tassels added at each corner.

Comments: This is one of those projects that I fell in love at first sight. I love bargello and this bargello ornament just seemed like it would be so much fun to stitch and it was.

The finished size is 5" by 7", so not a long stitch.

I had found this chart on eBay and there was nothing included, no threads and no cabochons with rimsets and no bugle beads either.

One of the thread was discontinued, but I was lucky enough to get it from a fellow stitcher. One problem remained though. I could not find the necessary cabochons for it and they were important to the design. Some of my friends even went to a lot of troubles to try to find some for me.

During that time I started thinking about what I could do to replace those hard to find cabochons and then it hit me like a ton of bricks, why not stitch some Jessica stitches instead using some gold metallic threads and fill the inside with some red metallic ones.

I tried it and was real pleased with the results. Then I had to make a decision about the bugle beads. Did I still wanted to use some as they are not hard to find or did I want to do something else instead. With the previous changes I had made, I opted to add a row of metallic thread instead.

Since I was in a changing mood, I then decided to finish it differently and you will see two photos showing the finished project. All I did for the finishing was to enlarge the original design and cut a piece of cardboard, cover it with a nice piece of velour that would serve as background and attach the finished stitched piece on top. I put some brown paper on back of the larger piece covered in red velour and glued a fabric hook that could support the weight which was rather light and I was pretty much done.

I have also included a photo of how Susan Portra did the original one. Normally I would have done it exactly the same as I loved the original design but due to the lack of cabochons I ended up with something different but equally interesting.

Comments: When I was part of Crazy Quilting International, we often made exchanges and these items did not have to be crazy quilting for such exchanges as long as it was something that we embroidered ourselves.

The woman who had been selected to receive my needle case had a love for horses and she had had many during her lifetime but there was one special horse that she had especially loved riding and her name was "Suzie". I thought that she might enjoy receiving a needle case with a horse on its cover and I made this one for her. I added some silk ribbon flowers at two corners and a little bit of cording.

From what she told me when she opened it, she was real happy about receiving something like this.

Lots of interesting photos for embroidery in this book which makes it an interesting book to have for crazy quilters but also for someone who is only searching for a drawing to embroider.

Comments: This is another lovely design from the Dodecagon series using very pastel colors this time around, so pretty like the previous ones.

Each time that a box came from Jim, I always rushed to open it right away in order to find out what colors and design I would be surprised with.

Jim's instructions are always very clear and there are lots of them with graphs on every page making it very easy to stitch each ornament. They were also relatively quick stitch due to their size.

Comments: I love stitching Halloween projects as it is just so much fun. If you were a fly on the wall while I stitch such projects, you would see me grinning from start to finish.

This is a small painted canvas, so that was a quick stitch. Have finished it as a door hanger and have given it to a dear friend of mine, just to put a smile on her face ............. and it did because we have been having this ongoing joke between the two of us for what now seems to be like forever.

I often tease her when she says that flying is too expense by saying that all she has to do to come visit me is to climb on her broomstick and fly over to my place and that I will keep the lights on for her for easy roof landing, with a big ladder handy so that she can come down in style to ring my doorbell. Coffee or tea will always be waiting for her with of course a nice assortment of cookies.

Comments: I was just looking at the year that I stitched on this needlecase and it was 2004. Gosh, time does fly, doesn't it?

 This needlecase is part of a 6 stitching accessories which also includes a frame weight (already posted), a laying tool case (also already posted), a scissor case, a scissor fob and a name tag.

Comments: This is a little under the sea theme that I created using a couple of drawings and arranging them together to get the above little scene, then have done a bit of embroidery and then finished as a postcard for an exchange in one of the group I belonged to at the time.

The goal of this project was to create a cute little postcard that the recipient would be happy to receive and that would not take me forever to make.

Comments: I wanted to learn how to embroider using this technique so thought this was a great place to begin learning those skills. Tanja also critique your work when you send her close-up photos, which I think is wonderful.

I have stitched many projects of hers which I will post later and others that are just waiting for me to get to them.

I chose this particular design because it was a starter design and I also love pansies. They are such wonderful flowers. I need to do more thread painting as it makes any design that you stitch look so very natural. Again, this is a technique that the  more you do, the better you get, like most things in life, but not all.
